Its a very simple and healthy recipe...

Ingredients:
1. Onion - 2
2. Cumin seeds (Jeeragam) - 1 or 2 tbsp
3. Tomato - 1
4. Curry leaves (Karivaepilai)

5. Pepper (milagu - powder or whole) - 2 tbsp

5. Tamarind (Puli) - 1 pulp

6. Turmeric powder (Manjal podi) - 1 tsp
7. Asafoetida powder (Hing or Perungaayam) - a pinch
8. Oil - 1 or 2 tbsp

9. Mustard - 1tsp
10. Salt to taste (2 tsp)



Preparation:
Put the tamarind pulp in hot water (after a minute, just squeeze it and leave it to mix/dissolve well).
Put some oil in the pan and saute the cut onions till golden brown.

Grind onions, cumin seeds, curry leaves, tomato and pepper in a mixie to a medium paste (5-10 seconds)
Put oil in the pan and allow mustard to sputter
Pour 2 glasses of water into the pan and add turmeric powder
Now, transfer the ground paste into the pan
Add hing & salt to it.
Let it boil for 2 minutes
Pour the tamarind water (only water and not the pulp) into the pan
Let it boil for few more minutes until few bubbles are seen (should not keep for more time)

Spicy rasam is ready.

Note
We can either saute the onions or even grind it plain.
